    The USDA Forest Service's Center for Urban Forest Research, a program of the Pacific Southwest Research Station, has been measuring the direct economic benefits that urban forests provide.

    Using inventory or sample survey data, the free i-Tree software allows users to calculate estimates of the net value of services that their own urban forest provides. i-Tree has been developed by USDA Forest Service urban forest researchers in cooperation with a number of other professional organizations.
